Presentations: Slide Guidelines and Makeovers - Virginia Tech Faculty Development Institute (FDI), 11/1 & 11/8/12, Wed, 10-11:45 am.

Planning Presentations for Proposals (and more) - Offered as a 1-credit special topics course supported by the Urban Affairs & Planning Dept at Virginia Tech (Building AA 114), 10/5 (5 pm - 9 pm) - 10/6/12 (9 am -5 pm).

• Designing user-friendly slide presentations is the objective of these workshops, guided by Evidence-BasedHuman Factors Guidelines for PowerPoint Presentations (Durso et al., 2011), and from personal experience conducting slide makeovers.
• The workshops are designed for a mixed audience who wants to fine-tune their presentation and slide creation skills.
• Participants are encouraged to submit electronic slides prior to the workshop for the makeover exercises.

• Part 1:  Perfect presentations are possible! Join me to develop or refine your presentation on any topic.  All participants will give a 30-second presentation in class and feedback will be provided to help make it great.  Take part 2 to maximize your presentation skills too, but this is not mandatory.  Bring a notepad, pen and a pad of sticky notes. $15; Wednesday, 6/13/12, 6:30-8:30 pm, YMCA-VT, Blacksburg, VA (VT's Torgersen 3060). Registration opened May 21, 2012. 
• Part 2:   This class will focus on structuring your talk and designing a great Powerpoint Presentation that will be easily understood by your audience.  Topics include identifying a clear purpose, knowing your audience, conclusions, slide guidelines, and practice, practice, practice! Example slide makeovers will also be provided. As an added bonus, participants are encouraged to send their slides ahead of time for feedback, or to bring them to the class. Completing Part 1 is recommended but not required. $15; Wednesday, 6/20/12, 6:30-8:30 pm, YMCA-VT (VT's Torgersen 3060). Registration opened May 21, 2012.
